Apps and hubs can be manually checked for existing updates. In the app, you can check whether changes have been made to the data source or the app has been completely revised. The great thing about Open as App is that all updates are available immediately.
You can check a hub on whether new apps have been added to this hub. Please note that updating the hub (or any other view containing multiple apps) does not automatically update apps that are included. The reason for that is that with each update your app does not only refresh the configuration but also the source file is re-downloaded. This can have a negative impact on performance and mobile data consumption for larger files.
Check an app for existing changes
When you start your app on the smartphone, it is automatically checked if something has changed in the configuration of your app. If this is the case, you will be informed automatically and can install the latest version of your app.
Changes to the configuration are changes made via the Open as App web portal.
This automatic notification does not (yet) appear when changes are made to an online hosted source file itself. For example, if the app is based on a Google Sheet and you change something there, you must install this update manually on your smartphone. We are working on an automatic review here as well.
Changes to the source file, for example, take place in a list application where you have activated the "Push to Server" functionality. (See article "Mobile data collection with Open as App".) If you use the app with several colleagues, add new data regularly or edit existing entries from the list, we recommend checking the app regularly for updates.
In calculations or surveys, you can check the app for updates using the swipe down gesture. Alternatively, you can tap on "Check for Updates" in the function menu in all apps. During the update, a loading beam appears and the app restarts.
Show new apps in the hub
In case you are missing an app in a particular view (for example a hub) - simply check this view for updates. All apps belonging to the view will appear after a short loading period. Please note that this process does not update the apps itself.
To update the view, proceed as follows:
- Open the view you want to check for updates.
- Open the function menu.
- Click "Check for Updates".
Where is my app?
If your app does not appear in the "My Apps" or "All" view, check for updates first. Please note that this process does not update the existing apps, so you may not be able to find your app because it has been renamed or the app card (icon) has changed.
To update the "My Apps" view, follow these steps:
- Go to the "My Apps" view on your smartphone.
- Open the function menu (via the round button on the right).
- Click "Check for Updates".
