You can customize your list app to group values by a particular column by default. This way you don't have to manually group your data every time you open the app.
The main view of an app that is already grouped per default, helps to quickly get a general overview of the data. In addition, the number of entries in the group is displayed on the right side of the group headline.
Group list by default
- Open your app in the Portal.
- Open the list editor in the app preview (by clicking on the pencil when you hover over the item).
- Select the column you want your values to be grouped by in the drop-down menu.
Please note that it is only possible to group by one of the active columns in the List Column view.
You will find the "Group Column" drop-down menu at the bottom of the "Main" tab.
Grouping by default does not work in the app?
Depending on the position of the column (set in the editor), some smaller devices might only show the first 3 columns. When the column you are grouping your list by is not one of the first, the list will not be grouped by this column. You can change the order of the columns in the editor.
The column does not appear in the drop-down menu?
It is only possible to group by one of the active columns in the List Column view. You enable a column by clicking on it.
In this example, we want the entries to be grouped by "Country". After activating the column in the editor, we moved it upwards to group the app even on devices with a small screen.
